“Chariton… Chariton….” the mysterious voice echoed. A boy, about the age of sixteen, laid on the grass, watching the bright sun through the cracks of the leaves of the trees. His hands crossed behind his purple hair, as he dazed into laziness. “Chariton, its time…” Chariton, ignoring the voice, continued to rest upon the green grass, admiring the…
“CHARITON!” at the sound of this voice, Chariton quickly woke up. He looked down to see himself sitting in a desk. Laughter filled the room, as Chariton noticed that he was in a classroom. He looked forwards to the source of the voice.
“Chariton, I will not tolerate sleeping in my class,” the teacher scolded. The bell immediately rang, as well as an instantaneous departure of all the students. As Chariton was on his way out, the teacher yelled out, “Chariton, if you sleep in my class one more time, I’m writing you up.”
After exiting the class, Chariton turned to the left to see a large crowd gathered up. Screams and taunts cracked throughout the hallway. Chariton moved to the group and cut through to see what was going on. A girl was holding down a kid’s head in the water fountain, slightly drowning him in the water. The girl had a frightening facial expressing, as she was holding the boy down tightly.
“Would you mind repeating what you said?” she howled as she tormented the boy.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry… I take it back,” the boy desperately stated. The girl then punched him in the back of the neck, and then let him go. The boy then ran off, as the surrounding students laughed at him. After turning around, the girl looked at Chariton.
“What are you looking at?” she asked. Chariton turned and left through the crowd. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.”
Chariton made his way up the stairs to grab his things from his locker. As he attempted to open it, a student passing by grabbed the handle on the back of his backpack and pulled him to the ground. “Loser,” the bully spit at him. Chariton got back up onto his feet, face to face with the man. “Oh, what are you going to do?” Chariton turned. The bully smirked as he walked away.
After gathering his things, Chariton left campus, making his way home by foot. While walking on the side of the road, he looked ahead to see the girl from earlier. She had already taken her school uniform off, wearing a black tank top with a skull print on the front and short jeans. Headphones covered her ears as she rocked back and forth to the music she listened to. A motorcycle sped by, startling Chariton. The motorcycle then stopped in front of the girl, and two students dismounted. The first kid was the one who the girl had beat on earlier. His name was Richard Harris, a short stalky kid. Richard, having a wealthy family, has been known to bribe and pay off teachers and students. The other student was the one who had tormented Chariton earlier at his locker. The ex-Football Quarterback, Kyle Biggs, who was removed from the team due to grades, loved to take any opportunity to let his aggression out.
“Today is not your lucky day, missy,” Biggs spouted to the girl, as he pushed her to the ground. She fell hard and slipped through the mud into the ditch that had been flooded from the rain. “You see, Rich here happens to not like the fact that you picked on him earlier. He’s paying me to teach you a lesson.” Biggs went to the other side of the ditch to grab a thick stick and wacked her in the stomach. Her screech echoed. Chariton immediately ran up to the ditch and reached for the girl, grabbing her and helping her up. “Hey, what do you think you’re…. aren’t you the kid from earlier?” Chariton then pulled her to her feet, completely mud soaked.
Rich then yelled, “Biggs… beat them both up… I’ll double your pay.”
“Oh, unlucky timing for you, boy,” Biggs leaped back to the road-side of the ditch and made his way to Chariton. As Biggs’s fist approached Chariton’s face, Chariton’s hand grabbed the fist and placed Biggs into an arm lock, pushing him to the ground. “Ok, now I’m pissed,” Biggs exclaimed, pulling out his pocket knife. The girl backed up, and Rich motioned Biggs, almost as if to say ‘no’, but it was too late. Biggs jabbed the knife into Chariton. The girl screamed, and Rich immediately ran away. Chariton’s body limped, laying on Biggs arm, still holding the blade into him. Tears flowed through the girl’s eyes, at the sight of him being stabbed. Biggs stared into the body’s face, immediately regretting his decision. Glare! Chariton’s eyes opened wide, as Biggs stepped away. Chariton stood upright, knife still protruding from his body. Dark energy swelled up, consuming the knife from the stab wound. When the darkness faded, no wound was to be found. Biggs, in shock, backed away, trembling, eventually jumping on his bike to drive away. Chariton fell to his knees, as the girl then caught him before he fell.
“What… what did you… do?” she asked, tears streaming from her face.
Chariton looked up at her and asked, “What’s your name?”
She smiled and replied, “Verona, and you?”
